Studies have shown that babies - and children in general - are interested in eating and sleeping. Who knew?!

So, Anne Meeker Miller has collected a variety of songs to enjoy throughout a child's day. Hungry critters, fruits and veggies, and other tasty goodies are featured in songs like "The Muffin Man," "John the Rabbit," and "My Kitchen Door."

Pete Seeger inspired Anne when he shared an old folk song with her entitled, "Crawly, Creepy Little Mousie". She added some verses, a bluegrass arrangement, and ended up with a brand new, fun rendition based on Seeger's melody.

The CD helps parents transition their babies to bed with songs like "We're Having A Bath" and "Rainbows, Railroads and Rhymes." "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" is another "must-have" lullaby to add to your dreamtime collection.

The music on this album is presented in a variety of styles and arrangements that children (and parents!) will enjoy. Consider picking up other award-winning CDs by this artist, including "Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed" and "Clap Your Hands."

Reviews:

"On her latest CD, Rainbows, Railroads and Rhymes, Miller draws from traditional folk music while incorporating creative covers and five original tunes. The recording starts with the breezy original "My Kitchen Door," which is an animal word association song. Next up is a bluegrass-flavored rendition of Peter Seeger's "Crawly Creepy Little Mousie," with additional original lyrics. Miller is quite good at adapting songs, sometimes to surprising effects; "John the Rabbit" is a kids variant on the traditional spiritual "John the Revelator," while "What Did You Have For Supper" recasts a classic Celtic death ballad into a happy little song about getting ready for bed."

"When Miller sings a lullaby, as in her adaptation of Christina Rosetti's poem "Clouds" (called "White Sheep, Black Sheep" on the CD) or the album's sweeping title track, she pours on lush instrumentation and shows a close affinity for the music of Loreena McKennitt. The album is gentle and sweet throughout." source

"A wide variety of gentle musical styles include kid-friendly folk, calypso and blues. Each song supports Miller's exceptional vocals and songwriting skills in a selection of traditional and original songs about nature's wonders and more." source
