RAINBOWS, RAILROADS AND RHYMES CD WINS PARENTS CHOICE AWARD
Anne Meeker Miller's latest CD wins its SECOND national award, the Parent's Choice Award! Our thanks
to Lahri Bond for his remarkable and kind review:
On her latest CD, Rainbows, Railroads and Rhymes, Miller draws from traditional folk music while incorporating
creative covers and five original tunes. The recording starts with the breezy original "My Kitchen Door,"
which is an animal word association song. Next up is a bluegrass-flavored rendition of Peter Seeger's "Crawly Creepy
Little Mousie," with additional original lyrics. Miller is quite good at adapting songs, sometimes to surprising
effects; "John the Rabbit" is a kids variant on the traditional spiritual "John the Revelator," while "What Did
You Have For Supper" recasts a classic Celtic death ballad into a happy little song about getting ready for bed.
When Miller sings a lullaby, as in her adaptation of Christina Rosetti's poem "Clouds" (called "White Sheep,
Black Sheep" on the CD) or the album's sweeping title track, she pours on lush instrumentation and shows a close
affinity for the music of Loreena McKennitt. The album is gentle and sweet throughout.
